For Immediate Release:
Greater New Haven Community Chorus
Prepares for Fall Concert Season with a Call for Singers
New Haven, CT – July 31, 2014 – Greater New Haven Community Chorus, a non-auditioned, four part (SATB) chorus is currently inviting singers to join its choral group for the 2014 - 2015 season. Currently the chorus has a special need for tenors and basses but is accepting all voice parts.
The GNHCC Fall 2014 Concert -- War and Peace -- Reflection, Honor and Hope -- is a concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I, the 75th anniversary of the start of World War II, honoring those who served, and the hope for peace. The program will feature Requiem for the Living (with chamber orchestra) by noted composer Dan Forrest, new compositions on historic war texts by composer Matthew Cramer, and other selections celebrating peace, hope and love. The concert is scheduled for Saturday evening, December 13 at Battell Chapel.
Rehearsals begin on Thursday, September 4. Prospective members are invited to attend three rehearsals as guests before committing to join the chorus. This provides an opportunity for interested singers to meet the chorus and Noah Blocker-Glynn, Artistic Director, to see if GNHCC provides an appealing atmosphere. The fall enrollment period is September 4 – September 18, 2014. Interested singers may visit any rehearsal during this period. Rehearsals are held every Thursday from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, at 704 Whitney Avenue, New Haven. Information about location, parking, registration, and repertoire for the upcoming season can be found at www.gnhcc.org.
To fulfill its mission of achieving the highest possible standard of choral music performed by a non-auditioned chorus, singers must be able to attend and actively participate in weekly rehearsals. A strong commitment to performance excellence is expected and there are opportunities for small ensemble work and solos by audition, including the auditioned GNHCC Chamber Choir. In addition, members are always encouraged to share their individual skills and talents with the various GNHCC committees or audition for the GNHCC Chamber Choir, a 30-voice ensemble that performs unaccompanied selections and focuses on community outreach.
Greater New Haven Community Chorus consists of approximately 100 voices and draws its membership from throughout the greater New Haven area. GNHCC strives to embrace the wide diversity of the community and is committed to making quality music accessible and approachable for audiences and members alike. Greater New Haven Community Chorus was founded in 1963 as a venture in community singing and continues to perform with pride and distinction.
