New Haven, CT – October 16, 2013 – As part of its 50th Anniversary Celebration, Greater New Haven Community Chorus (GNHCC) will be performing a special series of three choral concerts during its 2013 – 2014 concert season.
Greater New Haven Community Chorus is working with established composers and has commissioned two choral works written specifically for GNHCC‘s celebration of its fifty year history and its future. These works will be featured during the 2013- 2014 concert series.
The first concert – the Fall Concert will kick off the 50th Anniversary season. It will be held November 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hamden Middle School Auditorium, 2623 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT, and will feature the first commissioned work entitled "Beginnings" by Connecticut composer Joshua Hummel. The chorus will also perform a special arrangement of "How Can I Keep from Singing?" prepared by Hummel. In addition to the works by Hummel, the program will be comprised of American music and will feature works by Billings, Erb, Copeland, and others, including a special medley of several popular Broadway musical hits arranged specifically for GNHCC by Robert Tomasulo. A Post-Concert Reception immediately following the performance will be held at The Great Room at The Commons, 75 Washington Avenue, Hamden, CT. Concert attendees are invited to join members of GNHCC, the artistic team, distinguished guests and sponsors as GNHCC kicks off its 50th Anniversary Celebration. Ticket information can be found at www.gnhcc.org.
The second concert – the Holiday Concert will be presented on Sunday afternoon, December 15 at Battell Chapel in New Haven. The program will include selections from Handel's "Messiah" and many other traditional holiday favorites.
The third concert – the Spring Concert will feature the second commissioned work commemorating the 50th anniversary. This significant commissioned choral work will be the culminating artistic effort of the group's recent area-wide photography and poetry contests that were used as the inspiration for the commissioned work.
